G is for Giant Squid

Another project for my 2D or Not 2D illustration class. This week the class as a whole got one letter from the alphabet and a board to work on. We got to pick the theme to which our alphabet would illustrate. It came down to Deep Sea Monsters or Kama Sutra...and my professor decided to combine the two into Deep Sea Creature Sex. Actually it came down to us being able to do anything as long is it involved some sort of aquatic creature and an event that either leads to, is, or happens after sex. You guys know me so I took the approach of illustrating a picture you'd find in an aquarium or something.

Did You Know...?
While it is true that not much is known about the Giant Squid, scientists infer from dead giant squids that males inject sperm into the arms of females so that it can later be used to fertilize eggs. (So males actually injure females to store the sperm in the wound). However, some of the younger giant squids that have been found (dead, sadly) have the same wounds on their arms. It is not out of the question to assume that either a.) a male has mistaken another male for a female or b.) a male accidentally injects himself (In a mess of 20 arms flailing around...that doesn't sound too surprising).

Now that you're all a little smarter with that knowledge, I hope everyone's having a good week (even though it's almost at an end). Next weeks is my last week of winter session, so there'll be one more illustration project on the way!
